A walk around Ashington Community Woods! #CountryKids

Last week I needed to get out of the house. We all did. Becky had been at a lot of revision classes at school and Ellie and I hadn't got out much! We had a touch of cabin fever. I decided we would go for a walk and the only place I could think of was Ashington Community Woods.

Ashington Community Woodland is a large woodland on the former Ashington Colliery site. This fantastic green space covers approximately 135 hectares, lying immediately to the north of the centre of Ashington.

There are set walks which are signposted but we just made our own way. When we got to a junction we voted left, right or straight on. We went on a total wander and it was lovely!

After crossing the railway lines into the woodland area you would never have guessed there was a main road, it was hard to hear the sound of the cars.

It was such a lovely day and it wasn't long before I took my hoodie off.

We saw plenty of nature. Plants, flowers and lots of bugs and critters. I don't think I've seen as many butterflies in one day than I did last week!

It was fantastic to spend some time out of the house, away from GCSE revision and being together as a family!

Ashington Community Woods was somewhere we've never visited before but I think we will again!

  2. I love getting out of the house and into the forests/woods... there are so many around our area it's sometimes hard to decide where to go. Hopefully you'll have more days like this and not get cabin fever again. Jx

  4. Ah these woods look lovely. Just the perfect way to combat cabin fever and give the girls some fresh air. Revision for exams can be stressful and a little back to nature time is perfect for a break. #CountryKids

  5. What a beautiful place for a walk. I bet it did you all the world of good. It's nice to shut off from everything and go for a nice stroll, especially for Becky with all of the revision. Looks like Monkey had an ace time too ;) x

  7. It looks like a great place to get out of the house and cure cabin fever. We have also revisited several old favourites this Easter holiday just to get them off the screens for a few hours.

  9. Ashington Community Woodland sounds like a lovely place to explore. I love just making snap decisions about where to go when the path forks when out on a walk too. What a beautiful day you had for it and how lovely to see so many butterflies. It’s good to have a nice break outdoors from revision and to enjoy that time together as a family. Thanks for sharing with #CountryKids
