We got through SATs week.... #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

What a week we have had. Ellie my 10 year old has spent the last 4 days doing her year 6 SATs at school. It has been a week of ups and downs and there has been so many changes of moods from her....

Ellie came home on Friday in such a good mood. She had a letter saying the only homework she had was to have fun and relax which was fine with her.

We had a lovely weekend not doing much....Monday soon came around and Ellie was up bright and early for the English grammar, punctuation and spelling tests. She was looking forward to these one's as she had came top of the class when she did the mock tests.

All week Ellie had to leave the house at about 7.55am so she could go to breakfast club. The school wanted all the children there early so there was no chance of them missing the tests....Ellie loves breakfast club and I decided that if she wanted to she could walk to school with her sister without Stu or I taking her. She thought it was fantastic and I suppose she has to get used to it as in September she will be walking with her sister when she goes to secondary school.

On Monday night and Tuesday morning she was a bit worried....The reading test was next and that was the one she was dreading. She got through it and said it was quite easy...Phew.

I thought she was doing well....I thought we were over the worst but Wednesday came along and she just wasn't happy. She got dressed, had a cup of tea and then it came to going to school. It had been warm for the past couple of weeks and she hasn't been wearing a coat but it was chilly and she was determined that she didn't need one. I made her wear a hoodie and that was the final straw. The tears started. She stopped and decided she would still walk with her sister to school......5 minutes after they left I got a text from Becky saying Ellie was crying and didn't want to go to school.

She was really upset and came back home.....She looked so sad....She didn't know why she was crying and never blamed the SATs but I really think they were the root of her problems.

We got her to school before half past eight. Phew and handed her over to a lovely teacher. It was heartbreaking. I could tell she was upset because she still had hold of her soft toy Monkey and didn't want to let him go.  Usually he is never taken to school. As much as she loves him she tries to act cool in front of her friends. The teacher said she could take him in with her but it was for the best not to let him go. We only have one Monkey and if he was lost or damaged Ellie would be even more upset. I spent all day Wednesday fretting over her but it turns out I had nothing to worry about she came out of school full of smiles.....

On Thursday I think she was so excited about the party her class was having in the afternoon to celebrate the end of the SATS to worry about the last test. They had a disco, hot dogs and sweets. She came home and was back to being my happy girl. It seems like a weight was lifted off her shoulders...

Ellie will never admit the SATs has effected her behaviour or mood but they have....She has said they weren't as bad as she was expecting and some were actually quite easy but I am still so glad this week is over.

Today Ellie's school is having a fun day to celebrate the Royal wedding and they have to go dressed up in fancy clothes and I treated her to a new dress. A treat for getting through this week....She deserves it!

  2. Thank goodness they are done. I'm lucky that Boo has had a good week and come home fairly happy each day. Today they have a movie and popcorn to celebrate. I just hope her scores are good now, but she doesn't seem bothered. I hope you all have a lovely weekend and that Ellie's worries are over xx
