Brewers Fayre....Woodhorn Grange, Ashington - Review!

We were invited to review our local Brewers Fayre last week.....We decided Friday after school would be a great treat for the girls and a lovely end to the week....A few weeks ago Stu and I visited on a Friday during the day and we didn't have the greatest meal....It was understaffed and there were little things not right with the food....

When we arrived the whole atmosphere was different.....I could see plenty of staff and we were even shown to our seats.....Beano comics given to the girls along with crayons and the waiting staff explained what was on offer. The 2 meals for £10 which are served until 6.30pm, the Chefs counter starting at 5pm (it was Chip shop night) and told us there was new items on the autumn menu.....

As lovely as the comics were the girls were there to play in the soft play area.....Stu and I decided to order our starters and let the girls play....Stu choose the Cock-a-Leekie Soup - £2.99 which is new on the autumn menu....I know I don't like it so never even tried it but Stu said it was amazing....The way it was presented on the chopping board was a lovely touch and he said he wished they did takeaway by the bucket load as it tasted so good......

I choose the Prawn Cocktail of course - £3.99.....Last time I ate it here I had a few issues with it but this time it was just perfect....The lettuce was shredded not just lumps of it....There was lemon which I didn't have last time and the chilli powder was just on the prawn cocktail and not spread over the bread....

When it was time for the main courses we called the girls back from playing....They had been popping back for drinks....We took advantage of the unlimited soft drinks for £2.50....They love the soft play area and we could see them both from where we were seated.....

The girls chose their meals from the Menacing meals menu where each meal costs £3.99. Ellie chose the Big Bad Dog...Hotdog, chips, ketchup and mini corn on the cob....She switched her chips for Garlic bread and Becky chose the Sausage N Mash...Sausage, mash and peas and she switched the peas for beans...They wolfed them down within a few minutes and there was no complaints....If somethings wasn't right they would have told me.....

We didn't take advantage of the deal they had on the kids meals....I had plans for dessert.....You can get two courses for £4.49 and three courses for only £4.99 which I think is an absolute bargain....The portions are big enough for children and if they don't like the sides they can easily be changed.

For our mains Stu chose the Ultimate Sausage & Mash - £8.49....An 8 inch Yorkshire filled to the brim with Smithfield pork sausages, creamy mash, fried onions and cabbage, served with rich tasty gravy....It was like Man V's Food....It was huge! Stu got stuck and ate just about everything, enjoying every mouthful!

I chose the Chicken & Ham Pie also from the new autumn menu - £8.29. It was amazing! It was a lot better than I expected....I imagined a lot of pastry and not much filling but it wasn't like that at all....The filling was just right. The only thing which wasn't perfect was the gravy...It was a little too watery but that could just be the fact that I like it thick!

I didn't really have room for dessert but when I had checked out the new items on the menu I had seen the Sharing Fondue - £4.99 which consists of mini doughnuts, chocolate brownies, strawberries, waffles, marshmallows, a pot of chocolate fudge sauce and a pot of caramel sauce....I thought it was a bargain price and there was more than enough for the girls and I to share...

In the excitement of it all I didn't get a photo of Stu's dessert. He chose the Cadbury Chocolate Indulgence Sundae - £4.29 which involves vanilla and chocolate flavour ice creams, chunks of brownie and chocolate flavour sauce...It comes topped with squirty cream, Cadbury Dairy Milk and Flake pieces and a biscuit curl....It was epic! He ate just about all of it....

Our meal with drinks came to just over £50....We didn't take advantage of any of the meal deals though. I was too tempted by the pie and Stu the sausage meal....The daytime value offer runs from 12 until 6pm Monday to Friday and guests can enjoy two starters for £2.50, two mains for just £10.99 and two desserts for £2.50....

Throughout our meal the staff were attentive and there was plenty of them about....There was no complaints at all from us we cannot fault anything (well apart from the gravy...hehehe)....We had a fantastic meal. There was actually tears from Ellie when it was time to go home....I think if she had her choice she would have stayed and played all night....hehehe

This meal has restored my faith in Brewers Fayre.....I definitely think the service is better on an evening....Maybe Stu and I will have to visit again during the day just to test our theory! The whole atmosphere was different....It seemed more relaxed even though it was quite busy....We were there from 4.30pm until about 7pm and we would quite happily go back on an evening....

We were given a £50 voucher to pay for our meal. This did not influence this review....All thoughts and opinions are my own....
