Fictional Deaths I Will Never Get Over!!

Perhaps it’s the power of the writing, perhaps it’s the strength of the performance, but sometimes a fictional character's death in movies can affect us deep down inside to provoke an emotional response. Despite these people not being real, we still feel the need to shed some tears as the animators decide to stop drawing them or the actor walks off set to go and work on another movie.

I happened to notice #FictionalDeathsIWillNeverGetOver trending a few times over the last few weeks on Twitter and was intrigued....I never realised how many fictional deaths there were which have touched me....

When Mufasa king of the jungle  is trampled to death by a heard of buffalo saving his son Simba I cried buckets..... What was Disney thinking? I think that was the first time I ever cried because of a film....

The Harry Potter series has a lot to answer for...Dobby, Fred Weasley, Snape, Sirius, Hedwig, Tonks, Lupin and Dumbledore all died....

Buffy the Vampire slayer has a lot to answer for too....There were so many deaths which were so sad....Buffy died twice...Came back to life each time thankfully!

When Buffys mum died...I cried and I still do when it's repeated!! The whole episode was so moving!!

When Tara was shot...Aww!! Angel being sent to Hell...Technically he was already dead being a vampire and all but all the same it was so sad and in the final episode Spike dying to save the world....Aww!!

Littlefoot's mum from The Land Before Time....So, so sad. Those of us who are huge The Land Before Time fans know Littlefoot's mum as Mama Longneck. Littlefoot's mummy dies in a fight with Sharptooth protecting Littlefoot and Cera. Parents are the best.

John Coffey from The Green Mile....One of the most affecting on-screen deaths ever John Coffey being walked to the electric chair has stayed in my mind... Especially when he asks not to be hooded as he is "afraid of the dark". I cried so much!!

Bambi's mother!! :(

And finally Jack Dawson off Titanic!!

  5. I agree on all of them except the ones I didn't watch (Buffy and Harry Potter!) - I'd add in Macaulay Culkin on My Girl, ET (Although he comes back to life!), Sarah in Jack & Sarah and Arlena Twigg in Switched At Birth (Though based on a true story so not actually fictional!)

  6. The film Up, when he remembers his late wife. There was a child in the cinema crying and that made me cry even more! And of course Bambi.....
